Persephone’s Fruit is a beautiful CYMK silk screen print by Gavin Dobson.
Persephone was kidnapped by Hades in greek mythology after eating an enchanted Pomegranate seed. Persephone then spent six months every year in the underworld with the god of death himself. Those six months Persephone’s mother, the harvest goddess Demeter mourned for her daughter – stopping the growth of plants and creating what we now know as autumn and finally winter. Awaiting for her daughter to return every spring.
This piece celebrates fertility and womanhood as well as love.
Based on an original gouache painting of a pomegranate, this popular piece of art is individually hand printed by the artist using half tones to create the textures and drips running through the image.
Each layer adds warmth, depth and colour to this abstract design.

Gavin Dobson
Gavin Dobson's artworks are available to buy online with Wychwood art and in our art gallery. Originally from the North East of England, Gavin graduated in Fine art in 2000, and has been building his portfolio as an artist specialising in painting and screen printing - often combining the two, which helps communicate his chosen narrative. Gavin uses both vivid colours and expressive strokes to create engaging and lively pieces - his recent painting series ‘Landscapes of the Mind’ used the fluidity and movement of the paint to convey how an environment can effect ones state of thinking. Alongside his painting, Gavin is an established screen-printer exhibiting at many galleries across the U.K. and with new clients in New York his international profile is starting to expand. A regular at the Affordable Arts Fair, Gavin was one of 20 artists chosen to work alongside Film Four for an exhibition at Somerset House. His screen-prints often depict colourful, nostalgic images. Iconic designs which are humorous ornamentation and invite an opening for conversation.
