About the Item
Georges Braque Nature morte (avec un pichet et citrons) [Still Life with Pitcher and Lemons], c. 1950, a beautifully arranged and elegant still life, exhibits some of the artist’s more graphic sensibilities. Subtly framed with color variants along the left, right, and bottom margins, the composition features a table of fruit, utensils, and a pitcher. This work is along a more realist rendition of a still life portrait with very subtle cubist and abstract qualities. The shading throughout allows the objects to inhabit a three-dimensional quality while the earthy colors of yellow, grey, white, blue, and brown provide a consistent palette for the composition.
Created in c. 1950, this original color offset lithograph and screenprint was published by Beaux-Art, Inc., Paris with ‘No. 18’ printed in dark brown ink in the lower left margin and ‘Printed in France’ printed similarly in the lower right margin. Hand signed by Georges Braque (1882 – 1963) in black crayon in the lower right margin.
