1980s
About the Item
A fine limited edition signed lithograph, 'Pot au Feu' by British artist Glynn Boyd Harte. The work is signed in pencil by the artist bottom right and numbered 12/125 (number 12 of 125) in pencil bottom left. Presented in a metal and wood frame under glass.
A fantastic colourful and amusing view of a group of ingredients for a 'pot au feu' (a traditional French stew) as well as a box of candied (glacé) fruits and a map of Paris and its suburbs all presented on a bright pink checked table cloth. Boyd Harte always brought an enormous amount of humour to his paintings and compositions, there are wonderful details and 'jokes' hidden in the details. A really wonderful work ideal for a kitchen or anywhere else it can be seen and admired in detail.
Glynn Boyd Harte 1948-2003 was an artist, illustrator, author, composer & pianist educated at St.Martin's School of Art and the Royal College of Art.
"Glynn Boyd Harte was one of the most brilliant and influential illustrators and painters to emerge in the post pop world of London in the early 1970s" (The Guardian, London)
Harte was born in Rochdale, his father Herbert worked as a commercial artist and later teaching. Harte always maintained that print was in his blood, his grandfather being a printer by trade and his earliest memory being a garden path made from lithograph stones. He was educated at Rochdale Grammar School, before progressing to the Rochdale School of Art. He later transferred to St Martin's School of Art, where tutor Fritz Wegner encouraged him to move from black and white to colour. He would later join the Royal College of Art in 1970 where his tutors were Brian Robb, Edward Bawden, Paul Hogarth and Peter Blake. The artwork at his final show all sold, much to Harte's surprise.
Some of his early exhibited work at the Royal College included Gertrude Stein With Alice B Toklas Wallpaper, Nice: Jetée Promenade Avec Biscuit and Lady Cunard And Pig, which were created by the mix media of images culled from postcards, newspaper photographs and food packaging. His early enthusiasts included Tom Stoppard, who wrote the introduction for Harte's show at the Thumb gallery in 1976.
During the 1970s, Stoppard was one of Harte's painted portraits, with others sitting for him included actor John Wood, musician Brian Eno, novelist Isobel Strachey, painter Duncan Grant and the American composer Virgil Thomson. Harte would collaborate with filmmaker and publisher Jonathan Gili to produce several books, including "Weekend In Dieppe", "Sardines à l'huile" and a deluxe illustrated version of Betjeman's "Metro-Land". In 1979, he published a collection of lithographs of London's power stations called "Temple of Power", which included an introduction and architectural notes by Gavin Stamp, and a foreword by John Betjeman. Harte also composed music, with his song "Far Horizons" being selected by the painter Paul Hogarth for his Desert Island Discs.
Hatre exhibited regularly, originally with the Francis Kyle Gallery, while it was Curwen Gallery in Fitzrovia being the most recent. His last to big projects was artist-in-residence during the rebuilding of the Royal Opera House, and his paintings of the work in progress were exhibited on the re-opening night in December 1999. He followed this with studies of various millennium projects, exhibited at the Museum of London in 2000. In later life he turned from colour pencils to watercolours and concentrated his work on architecture.
Harte and his wife were active members of the Art Workers' Guild, to which Harte was elected in 1978 and to which he was elected Master in 1996.
His works are included in the permanent collection of The Tate, London.

- The Tree of Life, Signed Artists CopyBy Yasse TabuchiLocated in Cotignac, FRArtist's copy (Epreuve d'Artiste) of a large lithograph of a tree in colours by Yasse Tabuchi, hand signed and dated to the bottom right and dedicated to the bottom left. Yasse Tabuchi was born in 1921 in Kitakyûshû in the south of Japan. He first became acquainted with the techniques of oil painting in primary school. Here, he was also introduced to methods of copper engraving. During World War II, at only 17 years of age, he was called for military service in the Japanese army. In 1948, he returned to the University of Tokyo and completed his studies in Art History with a dissertation about French Colourism from Delacroix to Bonnard. He experienced a world of inspiration in non-fiction books, particularly in those concerning The Impressionists and Pre-Raphaelites. Tabuchi continuously searched for a more dualistic access to art, which is both technical and intellectual. In 1951, Tabuchi traveled to Paris in order to study at the Sorbonne. In 1953 he made his artistic debut at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles showing four oil works on canvas. He soon built up a reputation in the Post-War art world with his abstract works in vivid colours. During this time, he socialised with many other Japanese artists, as well as some of the members of the CoBrA group. Tabuchi soon shifted from the figurative style of his earlier Parisian works to an increasing level of abstraction. Influenced by Surrealist painting, his works were characterised by organic symbols, reflecting his ideas about the universe. After 1955 he began to experiment with colours and his palette became darker influenced by the difficulties he was experiencing at the time. In 1958, Tabuchi was invited to take part in an exhibition about Japanese abstract paintings, arranged by the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo. At the beginning of the 1960s, he went on a world tour to India and Japan, where he became fascinated by the glimmering golden shades of the Orient, especially prevalent in sacred temples. Tabuchi’s fascination with the colour gold became an important element in his later works and is used as a symbol of universal divinity. The figuration is divided in different sections, inspired by Japanese painted screens...Category
