About the Item

Page Size: 9 x 11 in. Frame Size: 17.5 x 19.25 in. Chromolithographic Etching A graceful and finely detailed botanical illustration of "Odontoglossum Alexandra Guttatum," which is considered by many to be the most beautiful of all orchids, but also one of the most challenging to grow. This piece is outstanding example of a 19th-century scientific plate, here marked as "PL 94." The composition centers a spray of white orchids, each petal distinctly marked with striking burgundy spots and intricate yellow and orange center interiors. The orchids are set against a cluster deep green leaves and a prominent, pseudobulb at the base. The illustration is highly realistic and precise, rendered on a neutral background, with a focus on capturing the exact characteristics of the orchid species for documentation. The style is classic botanical art, prioritizing clarity and scientific accuracy while maintaining an aesthetic elegance. The piece is ready to hang in vintage frame with layered canvas matte. Glass protects the front of the art.
