About the Item
This mezzotint was created by Laurent Sckolnyk and was meant as an homage to the movie stars of yesteryear -- in this case Marlene Dietrich. Dietrich was an icon in the gay community. A wonderful piece for PRIDE or anytime. This impression is #25 of an edition of 45.
Laurent Schkolnyk was born in Paris in 1953. He studied drawing and etching at the Beaux Art School in Nantes, France. Schkolnyk later studied with Professor Guimezanes, who taught him the mezzotint technique. He is a recognized master of three-color mezzotint prints. In this process, three separate mezzotint plates are made for the three primary colors. During printing, the colors mix to create a full spectrum of color, from bright reds to rich blacks. Schkolnyk has had solo exhibitions in Paris, Tokyo, San Francisco, and Seattle. His work has been included in numerous group exhibitions in France, the United States, and Asia. Laurent Schkolnyk currently lives and work in Nantes, France.
