About the Item
Pacific Heights is a serigraph on paper with an image size 18 x 36 inches, signed 'McKnight' lower right and numbered lower left. Framed in a contemporary black moulding. Numbered AP 6/65 from the edition of 525 (there were also 200 Arabic, 200 Roman, 50 HC, 4 TPs and 6 PPs).
“Thomas McKnight’s paintings redistribute true wealth, which is beauty; they invite us to enter and inhabit rooms more perfect than their counterparts in reality – rooms of enameled brightness and clarity that never need to be cleaned.” – Annie Gottlieb, Thomas McKnight: Windows on Paradise
McKnight’s sweeping panorama welcomes us to the comfort of this sumptuous penthouse apartment. By its title, the image invites us to one of California’s more notable neighborhoods. Grand private residences, detailed Victorian homes and modern complexes fill San Francisco’s Pacific Heights. The area’s mansions, with their carefully manicured landscaping offer highly cherished city and bay views. To improve upon the real place is an accomplishment and McKnight achieves this spectacularly.
McKnight masterfully frames his imagery in crystal light and broad panes of glass. The serigraph’s subject matter perfectly defines “comfort” with a book and cool drink waiting for you by the sofa and the crescent moon hanging over the bay as twilight approaches.

Thomas McKnight
Thomas McKnight's imaginary images can be described as delightful visions. No matter the passage of fashion or the seasons, there are places of transcendent timelessness in his work where peace and beauty only exists. Besides the incredible beauty of this work, it is probably his creation of places that gives us a sense of home that is responsible for his rapport with such a large public audience.

Biography:
Thomas McKnight (born 1941) is a U.S. artist. He was born in 1941 in Lawrence, Kansas. He attended Wesleyan University, a small liberal arts college in Middletown, Connecticut, where he was one of only five art majors. He spent his junior year in Paris. After a year of graduate work in art history at Columbia University, in 1964 McKnight found a job at Time Magazine where he would work for eight years, interrupted by a two-year stint in the U. S. Army in South Korea. In 1972 McKnight left Time, summered on the Greek island of Mykonos, and commenced painting in earnest. In 1979 in Mykonos, McKnight met Renate, a vacationing Austrian student, and married the following year. Throughout the 1980s McKnight’s art, mainly limited edition serigraph prints, became increasingly popular. In 1994 he was commissioned by the White House to paint the first of three images for President Clinton...
