1943 Arado "Ar 196" - World War II German Reich reconnaissance fighter plane

A particularly unusual style of aeroplane identification poster, owing to the very arty images. Most such posters rely on very plain silhouettes, this series - and we have many in this series - have a much more arty approach to the task with shading and an interesting angle view.
The Arado Ar 196 was a shipboard reconnaissance low-wing monoplane aircraft built by the German firm Arado. Production began in 1936. The next year it was selected as the winner of a design contest and became the standard aircraft of the Kriegsmarine (German Navy) throughout World War II.
The Ar 196 was loved by its pilots, who found that it handled well both in the air and on the water. It was used during the capture of HMS Seal, and for the repeated interception of Royal Air Force Armstrong-Whitworth Whitley bombers (posters of which are also available). The Ar 196 was generally considered to be better than its Allied counterparts and, indeed, the best of its class.
