About the Item
This poster, very beautiful and very rare was realized in 1944, by the Americans for the liberation of Paris then occupied by the Nazis. Indeed we can appreciate this big French flag which flies at the top of the Eiffel Tower accompanied by the motto of the city of Paris.
"Fluctuat nec mergitur" is a Latin locution used as the motto of the city of Paris, meaning "It is beaten by the waves, but does not sink."
The motto accompanies and refers to the ship represented on the coat of arms of Paris, symbol of the powerful corporation of the Lutetian nauts.
It recalls "the dangers that Paris has run, the terrible revolutions that have agitated it, the crises of all kinds that it has undergone" and expresses "the idea of vitality, strength, perpetuity that characterizes the long and glorious existence of this city."
