Antoine Dufilho
Mercedes W196 ST

About the Item

Rusty steel with polished aluminum wheels. Limited and signed edition, number 8 of 8. It’s by being aware of his roots that a man can grow. Antoine Dufilho is aware of the roots that plunge into art and his work proves it. As a child, Antoine Dufilho learned about visual arts from his great-uncle, who’s an actor, painter and sculptor. Later, medical studies allowed him to discover and to dissect the complexity of human biomechanics. Architectural studies have then led him to a new approach to sculpture, particularly to the work of the framework. Which once exposed, reveals a succession of full and empty, bringing lightness and dynamism in the general form. Antoine Dufilho is a self-taught artist, who experiments with different techniques such as molding and welding to gradually build the aesthetics of his art around this DNA that characterizes his creations; he began to devote himself fully to it in 2012. His work consists of exposing an alternation of fullness and emptiness, materializing a skeleton, decomposing forms into successive layers. A movement is created by this sequenced representation. It is therefore a kinetic vision of a static object that offers the artist, particularly thanks to the strolling of his observer, a different interpretation depending on its observation point. The dynamic effect is accentuated by an alternation of symmetries and asymmetries, causing an acceleration or deceleration effect. Between the names Dufilho and Bugatti, there is a link almost palpable, which has been woven by the passion of several men. First it was Jacques, Antoine’s great-uncle, who had the chance to collect Bugatti. This huge passion was passed on his nephew and naturally, as we transmit a genetic heritage, the torch was passed to Antoine. This love for the artistic vision of the automobile led Antoine to the creation of car sculptures. He started working aluminium to sculpt a bugatti type 37, which was one of his great-uncle garage jewels. His collection counts today, about thirty models, which all have that identifiable style from the artist.

  • Big Love - Medium
    By Rainer Lagemann
    Located in Miami, FL
Powder-coated stainless steel. Unique. Born in Düsseldorf, Germany on September 14th, 1959, Rainer Lagemann studied in Abitur Albert Einstein Gymnasium from 1965 - 1978. Following this, he enrolled in the University of FH Detmold (1983 - 1987) where he studied Interior architecture and got a sense of himself - learned a lot about design, furniture, architecture and art. It was only in 2005 when Lagemann started welding and found his true passion and special talent for it. Concentrating on the human body in a modern interpretation of the classic art of sculpture, Rainer is fascinated by the human body and the classic theme of artistic expression and struggle that has been depicted in all shapes, materials and mediums since the existence of mankind. Rainer's sculptures capture the human body in motion--a freeze frame of classic, timeless gestures and emotions that are both ethereal and concrete. The forms he creates are how one would imagine the grace of a Nureyev or Baryshnikov in mid-flight. Rainer uses hollow metal squares to sculpt the human form, creating works that elicit both the strength and delicacy of the body. Each square represents the trials and tribulations of life, the four corners symbolizing the intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual dimension of human beings that form the framework of the spirit and the image of the body. The hollow squares strip away distractions, leaving a powerful vision and exploration of the human body, adding an element of tangible levity and intangible abstraction. With all of Rainer's sculptures there is a secondary layer of beauty, abstraction and mystery. When darkness falls and the lights come on, the exquisite shadows of form, squares, body and spirit cast themselves upon the walls creating a second sculpture of light...
