About the Item
Rah-Rah is made by casting Hydrocal FGR95 (a very hard plaster) on top of an oil clay pattern. The oil clay is extruded to take on a "noodle form". The composition is laid out on plexiglass, walls are built and the plaster is poured, filling up the walled form. Once cured, the oil clay is removed, then graphite paint and hot pink foil is applied much in the same way I do gold leaf. The piece is hung with French cleat and is signed, titled, and dated on the back. A foam core pattern will be included to aid with placement and install.
Rah-Rah is just that, a cheer to keep going! I created the model for this piece by tearing up sheets of paper and composing the bits into the shape you see. I love using hydrocal because is it not only super strong, but it picks up even the finest of details (including fingerprints in the oil clay. I am so happy how this piece turned out, its a bit hard to put it up for sale, but I know it will find a perfect home out there!
Ben Watkins was born in Owensboro, Kentucky in 1977. He holds a BFA from Murray State University and a MFA from Rhode Island School of Design, both degrees in furniture design.
