Brent Fogt
“Air and Space” Red Abstract Contemporary Collage and Found Wood Sculpture

2021

About the Item

Colorful abstract contemporary collage sculpture that incorporates collage, paint, and found wood. The organic, amorphous form features a primarily red grouping of spires attached to a natural wood base. This creates an interesting contrast between the painted surface and the natural base. Artist Biography: The son of a Lutheran pastor and a psychotherapist, Brent Fogt (he likes to say Fogt rhymes with boat) was born in Ohio and raised in Texas. He produces drawings, collages, and sculpture that combine found materials such as furniture, clothing, and organic materials. Fogt’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Austin College, Emory University, Indiana University and the Lawndale Art Center, and in publications such as New American Paintings, Art in America, and hyperallergic. He has completed artist residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, Djerassi Resident Artists Program, I-Park Foundation and Yaddo, and was a BOLT resident at the Chicago Artists Coalition in 2017-18. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. Fogt lives and works in Houston, Texas.

Nancy Baker, Fewer Answers, 2017, paper, acrylic, digital pigment print
By Nancy Baker
Located in Darien, CT
In Baker’s work, there is solace in the geometry of fundamentals, and a practice that focuses on the ephemeral nature of paper and the ease of its transportability, which allows her to create large-scale constructions. A desire for definitive certainties and incontrovertible truths in an era of “alternative facts”, precipitate the need for Baker to assert her clarification of evidence. A new major installation has been created for her exhibition at ODETTA that layers baroque design elements found in paper cup carrying trays with anxiety-provoking phrases, rendered as gorgeous, yet fragile paper spheres...
