About the Item

The modern Sculpture " Siqiniq ” is a unique Totem made from a burnout mold by David Marshall in 2021, sand cast in aluminium in our foundry, handcrafted by the Artist in his workshop in Spain. His signature certifies its authenticity. "Siquiniq: A one-of-a-kind outdoor or indoor sculpture crafted from recycled wood, and sandcastle aluminium a unique century old technique. This captivating artwork embodies the essence of nature, with its intricate patterns and organic forms. This Totem stands as a testament to the beauty and resilience of the natural world, inviting viewers to contemplate the interconnectedness of life and the transformative power of art." With more than 50 Years since his first exhibition in Spain, David Marshall has shown his highly individual work throughout Europe and United States. “ After all this years since my first show I am still fascinated by working in 3 dimensions – maybe because I cant draw or more likely because sculpture holds some obtuse subconscious obligation. It is still addictive and highly satisfying despite the onus of molding, casting, welding, polishing, fitting in a tough work environment before the final satisfaction of seeing the piece come together as envisaged. Living in the mountains provides the creative impetus, being surrounded by rocks, rivers, the detritus of erosion, geomorphology and all natures destructive force has inspired an eclectic, very personal and organic bias to my work – an appreciation of random forms, diverse textures and all the unexpected creativity of the natural world where no line is perfect.

Abstract Wall Sculpture "Synopsis" - Early Hologram Effect
By Halvorsen Vever, Elsbeth
Located in Soquel, CA
"Synopsis" by Elsbeth Halvorsen Vever (American, b. 1929). Box sculpture combines aluminum, sand, bone, glass and a magnifier. Signed "Elsbeth Vever 1982" on verso. Image, 24.50"L x 13.75"H x 4"W. Using bone as the central image Elsbeth has assembled an optical and visual experience. One view is the magnification and juxtaposition of the floating effect of the curvature in the stainless steel background; stand back and it's a hologram effect. The first image shows clearly the hologram effect available to the eye of the viewer. From a review of her show of box constructions in Providence, Rhode Island: "Viewing her box constructions is a lot like a walk in the moonlight. What we know, or think, to be true in the hard brightness of daytime reality dissolves into an amorphous space of multiple possibilities and perspectives." Born in Purdys, New York, Elspeth Halvorsen is the daughter, granddaughter, and mother of professional artists. She has studied at prestigious academic and artistic institutions includingthe New School for Social Research, the Art Students League, and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. In 1955, she moved to Provincetown, Massachusetts, establishing her home and studio in the former residence of Mark Rothko. Provincetown not only remains her home but also acts as a personal, social, and artistic source of inspiration for her work. Shortly after arriving in Provincetown, Halvorsen and her husband, the late Tony Vevers...

"Untitled" Sidney Gordin, Abstract Metal Steel Sculpture
By Sidney Gordin
Located in New York, NY
Sidney Gordin Untitled, 1958 Incised with initials Welded Steel 15 x 10 1/2 x 6 inches Provenance: Eric Firestone Gallery, New York On October 24, 1918, Sidney Gordin was born in Chelyabinsk, Russia. He spent his early years in Shanghai, China. At the age of four, he moved with his family to New York. Gordin’s nephew, Eliot Nemzer recalls that when Gordin was a child he attended “a dinner party with his parents. Someone showed him a book of pictures that when thumbed through quickly made the image appear to move. This person then gave him a wad of blank papers and something to write with. Sid created a similar type of moving image with his materials. All the adults at the party became quite excited [and] praised his efforts. Sid told me he thought this was a pivotal experience in guiding him towards his vocation.” During his formative years at Brooklyn Technical High School, he briefly contemplated the idea of becoming an architect; yet, by the time he enrolled at Cooper Union, he was determined to become a professional artist. There, he studied under Morris Kantor (1896-1974) and Leo Katz...
