Debra Baxter
Debra Baxter is a sculptor who harnesses the power of natural material through fabrication and disparate combinations. She received an MFA in sculpture from Bard College in 2008 and a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1996. She is a 2019 Recipient of the Joan Mitchell Grant for Painters and Sculptors. She has received four 4Culture Grants, an Artist Trust Fellowship, and was an artist-in-residence at Bullseye Glass. Baxter’s work is in public collections throughout the US, including the Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Seattle Art Museum, and the Albuquerque Museum. Her work has been featured in Zoo Magazine (Germany), Edelweiss Magazine (Switzerland), Zink, Design Bureau, Sculpture magazine, and THE magazine by Southwest Contemporary. She has had solo shows at Form and Concept, Santa Fe, MN; Roq la Rue, Seattle, WA; Platform Gallery, Seattle; and Massimo Audiello, New York. Group exhibitions include Making Mends, Bellevue Art Museum, Bellevue, WA, Death and Other Objects, Or Gallery, Vancouver, Canada, and Connections: Contemporary Craft at the Renwick, Renwick Gallery, Washington DC. Baxter is represented by Form & Concept in Santa Fe and Roq La Rue in Seattle.
