About the Item
This five-part sculpture named « Ove » evokes the shelter, the refuge. Its red and black egg-form cores are placed and fixed inside their shells which are suspended from their long stem. It is entirely hand-knitted from a galvanized ion wire, created and made by artist Delphine Grandvaux, after her inspiration by the suspended nests of weaver bird.
For the installation of this artwork, the artist invites its collector to join her in an extension of her artistic creation, by offering the freedom to install it in her/his own way. The size of this artwork when installed varies with the way its collector installes it, as demonstrated in the photos : Either all five parts are hanged on the same level on the top and at their full length, which gives the artwork a height of 82.6 inches; or the volumes rest on the floor, which makes the height of the work less important. The dimensions of the external shells of these 5 individual parts and their height are respectively:
7.87 inch x 7.87 inch with a height of 41.33 inch (red core)
9.84 inch x 9.84 inch with a height of 57.08 inch (red core);
16.53 inch x 16.53 inch with a height of 66.93 inch (red core);
11.02 inch x 11.02 inch with a height of 49.21 inch (black core);
13.38 inch x 13.38 inch with a height of 82.67 inch (black core);
Delphine Grandvaux is a French sculptor. Motivated by her desire to create light and airy artworks, she developed a unique artistic approach, based on a similar technique of mesh from the metal wire as Ruth Asawa, although in a more dynamic way. In the mesh working of Delphine Grandvaux, the metallic threads, sometimes associated with other light materials like wood, wool, etc., seem to be tamed by the power of her technique and by her freedom of imagination. They transform themselves under the hands of the artiste into voluminous organic and dynamic forms, fine and refined, with fluid movements inside as well as outside the artwork. Playing with light and shadow, the transparent or semi-transparent forms created by the artist are truly evocative of poetry, delicacy, and elegance.
