About the Item
Eladio de Mora-Granados, dEmo, is one of the most original creators on the Spanish art scene.
Born in Mora, Toledo, in 1960. A self-taught artist, dEmo's concerns began when he conceived a doll with springs, nuts and tweezers. A great art connoisseur and enthusiast, he is also known for his role as a collector.
A multidisciplinary artist, he has focused his work fundamentally on sculpture, which he conceives, above all, to be exhibited in public spaces. dEmo manages to turn everyday elements, common utensils and toys rescued from our collective memory into authentic icons. This iconization of the domestic is one of the main hallmarks of this artist's work.
Bears, ducks, divers, flowers, rhinoceroses, cows, pigs, cats, robots, with bright flat colors that can reach enormous dimensions and often repetitions of the same element, populate the visual world of dEmo, which tries to seduce the public with humor, to achieve greater ecological awareness, without losing sight of the fact that sculpture is not an object, but rather a question and a motor of thought.
He has presented his work in cities around the world, such as the IVAM (Valencia), the Baroja Museum (Gijón), the Santo Domingo Cifuentes Museum of Contemporary Art (Guadalajara), the Arterra Contemporary Museum in Vienna (Austria), the Museo of Fine Arts of Havana (Cuba), the MACAY Museum of Contemporary Art of Yucatan (Mexico), among others.
In 2016 he was chosen to make the 'Tegesta' trophies at the Miami Fashion Week film competition, which were awarded for the first time in 2017. He has also made the Fuenso Shoe Desgn Awards, Gijón International Video Art Festival, Motor and Aula del newspaper El Mundo, Women Together in New York, among many others. He has collaborated for firms such as Franck Müller, Omega, Swatch, Rolls Royce or Scalpers.

"Quayola employs technology as a lens to explore the tensions and equilibriums between seemingly opposing forces: the real and artificial, figurative and abstract, old and new. Constructing immersive installations, he engages with and re-imagines canonical imagery through contemporary technology. Landscape painting, classical sculpture and iconography are some of the historical aesthetics that serve as a point of departure for Quayola’s hybrid compositions. His varied practice, all deriving from custom computer software, also includes audiovisual performance, immersive video installations, sculpture, and works on paper.
His work has been performed and exhibited in many prestigious institutions worldwide including V&A Museum, London; Park Avenue Armory, New York; National Art Center, Tokyo; UCCA, Beijing; How Art Museum, Shanghai; SeMA, Seoul; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Ars Electronica, Linz; Sonar Festival, Barcelona and Sundance Film Festival.
Also a frequent collaborator on musical projects, Quayola has worked with composers, orchestras and musicians including London Contemporary Orchestra, National Orchestra of Bordeaux, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Vanessa Wagner, Jamie XX...
