Enio IommiMoving Planes, abstractionc. 1970
c. 1970
About the Item
Moving Planes dates from the period in Iommi’s body of work that corresponds to the so-called “Baroque” period of Concrete Art. This is a sophisticated work that picks up exploring in new materials where Cubism left off. The appeal of this is its delicacy and thinness that makes it feel more like a cut-out idea than a bronze or heavy medium of the past could achieve. Thus it has a lyrical feel to it.
Great piece to put on a table or anywhere due to its lightness and ability to move around and transform any spot.
It has a new base, was signed in the original base of which we retain an image to go with the work along with a certificate of guarantee to its originality.
Throughout the early 20th century, the artist asserted his essential identity as a Modern sculptor. As is evident here, Iommi was known for manipulating metal surfaces—performing cuts, deconstructing planes, and reforming lines—in order to establish new virtual volumes and define new spaces. Iommi became a member of the National Fine Arts Academy in 1975, but renounced the title in 1999, finding the limitations of his title too restrictive and static. It was during the 1970s, with pieces like Moving Planes, that Iommi first began to break away from the accepted definition of Concrete aesthetics and turned his efforts and work toward a broader critique of industrialization, using the art market as a self-referential and ironic basis upon which to critique modern consumer culture.
Born in a family of artists (both his father, Santiago Girola and his brother, Claudio Girola were sculptors), Enio Iommi started practicing sculpture in his father's workshop in 1936. In 1937 he studied drawing in Enrico Forni's atelier in Buenos Aires.
Iommi formed part of the generation of artists who introduced avant-garde in Latin America. In 1946 he was a founder of the Arte Concreto-Invención group, which aesthetic concern was exclusively with the forms, shapes, and colors, dissociated from any sort of figuration or representation of reality. His works of this period were executed in stainless steel, aluminum, wood, bronze and acrylics. From 1977 he radically changed his style, producing assemblages and installations as a way of making a criticism to the country's government, the Military junta.

By Robert Cook
Located in Greenwich, CT
Robert Cook’s Splash sculpture draws inspiration from the iconic photograph of a drop of milk creating a circle and splash in a pool of milk. This fleeting moment of suspended motion sparked Cook’s exploration of how to capture such dynamic energy in a static form.
Robert Cook was a great American sculptor and his works are in many museums and his iconic Dinoseras piece commands a spot on the street of New York at 51st Street.
Important to note with this work that it is unique and there are no other casts. Cook sculpted in wax and when he cast this destroyed the wax and there was no mould. Very few sculptors work in this manner and it speaks to a very pure and altruistic form of sculpture. If perhaps he had been more commercially minded he would have done large editions but instead he valued singularity as in nature.
In Splash, Cook freezes a moment of kinetic energy, capturing the elegant tension between impact and expansion. The sculpture embodies both grace and chaos, with a fluidity that suggests movement at the very instant it’s frozen in time. Cook’s mastery of his medium allows this dynamic moment to be immortalized in bronze, creating a powerful and emotional resonance that transcends the physical form, making Splash both a formal and philosophical exploration of time, space, and motion.
