About the Item
Yellow Siena marble and brass sculpture, oxidised white marble base. 12 × 40 × 40 cm (4,7 × 15,7 × 15,7 in).
Initiated in 2000, the Nests, Cocoons, Chrysalis series marks the artist’s first major body of work. These sculptures take the form of enclosed, vessel-like shapes that evoke spaces of intimacy and protection: nests symbolise home and family, while cocoons and chrysalises serve as metaphors for safe, transformative environments. This series emerged from a period of personal introspection, reflecting the artist’s deep need to protect her loved ones and her yearning for motherhood and family life.
Francesca Bernardini’s marble sculptures, with their soft, rounded contours, stem from internal states, emotions, and lived experiences. The forms she sculpts often draw on nature for inspiration and are rich with symbolic meaning tied to universal themes such as personal growth, human connection, reverence for nature, and life’s cyclical rhythms. As the artist explains: “Inspired by the observation of the microcosm of the natural world, my work emphasizes particular details and distorts dimensions, my forms becoming containers of past life or of inner or emotional metamorphoses.”
The indicated dimensions include the base of the sculpture. The sculpture is maintained on the base with a rod but it is movable. Indicative dimensions of the yellow marble nest: 8 H x 18 L x 6 D cm (3,1 H × 7,1 L × 2,3 D in).

Francesca Bernardini’s marble sculptures, with their smooth, rounded forms, are rooted in states of mind, emotions and personal experiences. The shapes and volumes that give them form are often inspired by the natural world and are loaded with symbolism linked to universal themes: personal development, the importance of human interaction, respect for nature and the cycle of life. Francesca Bernardini participates in numerous sculpture symposia around the world such as in Morocco, Turkey, Taiwan, Chile, Iran and Brazil. During these professional excursions, the sculptor has the opportunity to create monumental sculptures. “Inspired by the observation of the microcosm of the natural world, my work highlights particular details and distorts dimensions, my forms becoming containers of past life or of inner or emotional metamorphoses.”
