Hans Van de Bovenkamp"Androgynous" abstract bronze sculpture 2006
2006
About the Item
Hans Van de Bovenkamp's abstract-figurative sculpture "Androgynous" is a subtly feminine piece with a sensuous balance of rounded and angular forms. This medium sized sculpture will imbue your space with a pleasant presence, intriguing from every angle.
Van de Bovenkamp's work is inspired by myths, the collective consciousness, and subliminal learning. “I like dreams, myths and mythology," says the sculptor, who has been influenced by the work of Joseph Campbell, the cultural anthropologist. "A lot of my work is derived from ceremonial religious art."
Van de Bovenkamp was born and raised in The Netherlands, where he studied architecture. Within ten years of moving to the US and graduating from The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, he began showing his sculpture in New York, Houston, and several other states, and he quickly received recognition for his large-scale abstract works in bronze, stainless steel, painted steel, or aluminum. He received large commissions for corporate, private, and public collections as early as 1964, the year he received the Emily Lowe Memorial Award, and was featured in ten museum, embassy, and sculpture center shows. Today, Van de Bovenkamp’s sculpture is widely displayed in galleries throughout Europe and the US. A recently published, 160-page book spanning the artist’s 40-year career is available from Hudson Hills Press.

- "Receiving (72-inch)" abstract bronze sculptureLocated in Glen Ellen, CACast bronze sculpture with classic green patina on black marble base. Edition of 3 at this size. Other sizes and patina finishes are also available by commission, please inquire for more details. Pisapia's "Expedition Series," inspired by sea voyages, is about meeting life’s challenges with courage and purpose. It connects to the idea expressed by J.W. Goethe: “Character is formed in the stormy billows of the world.” Taking up life’s tasks can require one to go against the wind. The feeling of determination to achieve and continue steering through obstacles is poured into the pure forms; a dynamic balancing of the straight and curve on different axes. "With a rounded starting point," Pisapia explains, "I add on a variety of disparate angles, diverse curves, and twisting planes. I carve and smooth the surfaces, bringing out particular tensions and transitions." Flavius Valone Pisapia is an Italian-Romanian artist born in Bucharest in 1981. He completed his higher education in the UK, with an MA in Transpersonal Arts & Therapy, 2014; a Diploma in Transformative Arts, 2011; and a BA (Hons) in Film and Video, 2005. Pisapia studied sculpture throughout his higher education and appreciated several sculptor mentors in the UK. Since 2016, he has resided in India, where he is currently an artist in residence at Studio Sukriti in Jaipur. He has had several solo exhibitions in India and his artwork is found in private collections worldwide. "It's important for me to experience the world at a deeper level by penetrating the veil of the senses. Through an immersive process the essence, beauty and the pure form of an idea are gradually revealed to me. The emerging awareness flows into my artwork imbuing it with a higher reality. To achieve this awareness in my creative process, I go through three stages: imagination, inspiration and intuition." - Flavius PisapiaCategory

- "Moonlight" unique bronze sculptureBy Gerard TsutakawaLocated in Glen Ellen, CAMany of Gerard Tsutakawa’s home-sized sculptures, and some of his public ones, have a geometric window that allows the viewer to go through and beyond the form. In “Moonlight,” this small circle becomes the moon and one can go through its phases simply by moving from side to side, the highly polished edges of the circle’s edges mimicking delicate moonlight peering through the night of the dark patina surrounding it. "Moonlight" is finely hand-crafted in fabricated bronze, as opposed to cast, and is therefore one-of-a-kind rather than an edition. Finished with the artist’s rich, dark patina with bluish tinges and a polished inner circle. Gerard Tsutakawa’s designs are a confluence of the cultures and traditions of the Pacific Rim. Tsutakawa grew up with a rich heritage of Japanese design creativity and sensibility combined with a lifetime spent in the Pacific Northwest’s beautiful natural environment. Exposure to the esthetics of cultures around the Pacific Rim instilled a humanistic approach to his creative process. He gathers images as bold as a Tongan war club, or as sensitive as folded origami paper, and creates a subliminal integration as a new art form. Tsutakawa apprenticed with his father, the late George Tsutakawa...Category
