About the Item
Cloud by British sculptor Ian Thomson has been created using Colonnata Marble, Grigio Nuvolato. Thomson's travels have provided inspiration for his work. He holds degrees in Architecture and Philosophy & describes his influences as Greek and Egyptian sculpture which includes names such as Michelangelo, Rodin, Degas, Manzu and Maillol. His influences also come from closer to home, namely his mother, an artist who exhibited at the Venice Biennale. Thomson works on raw marble blocks, after painstakingly planning his vision to the last detail on a clay maquette.

In a statement regarding this artwork, Thomson writes:
‘On the beach, watching the sunset I spotted a cloud formation that I liked. I sketched it and developed an idea for a sculpture. Shortly after I obtained a batch of marble and as chance would have it, it included a piece of cloudy grey and white marble from Colonnata of good proportions for my design.
