About the Item
"MIES" is a sculptural floor lamp designed by Iskandar Jani, inspired by the structural columns of the German Pavilion, designed by Mies van der Rohe for the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona. The lamp captures the essence of pure, architectural minimalism, reducing the design to its essential structural and luminous components.
At the heart of the piece lies an intuitive design gesture—a raw, archetypal base structure that supports a floating luminous globe, appearing almost weightless in space. The juxtaposition of the rigid, industrial base and the soft, diffused light creates a subtle tension, evoking both balance and contrast.
Handcrafted in Belgium, "MIES" is constructed from two laser-cut 5mm raw aluminum sheets, which are sanded and waxed by hand, ensuring a refined yet raw aesthetic. Atop the base structure sits a matte white opal glass globe, housing an LED light source that provides a soft, warm glow. The use of LED technology ensures longevity and energy efficiency, making "MIES" as functional as it is sculptural.
Designed to bring a sense of weightlessness and spatial purity to any interior, the "MIES" lamp is a timeless tribute to modernist architecture, celebrating precision, balance, and the interplay between material and light.
