Jane B. Grimm
Op Art Redux II / ceramic wall sculpture - blue, white, 3D

2019

About the Item

Ceramic abstract wall sculpture in blue and white. A neutral in color - minimal, clean work created with low-fire ceramic over white wood from Pop Art pioneer Jane B. Grimm, whose minimal and meditative sculptures and wall reliefs are comprised of glazed ceramic, using a low fire method. Grimm's career began in the 1960s, when her freeform sculptural jewelry exploded onto the fashion scene in NYC. Her contemporary ceramic sculptures have premiered in galleries and museums worldwide. 'Op Art Refdux II '' is created in with ceramic on white wood. It is a dramatic and provocative work in carved, moulded and glazed ceramic. A meditative work that is appropriate to display in a kitchen or bathroom, where other mediums — painting, or works on paper — may not hold up well under the same conditions of heat, moisture and direct light. Ceramic can take full light and even moisture. Artist signed, dated and titled verso. Unique. A wonderful one-of-a-kind work of art to live with and to enjoy over a lifetime.

Artist : Casey Whittier Title : Washcloth (Sherbet XOXO) Materials : earthenware, mason stains Date : 2017 Dimensions : 7 in x 9 in x .25 in Description : ceramic chainmail washcloth - sherbet orange, white, blue Casey Whittier received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and MFA from the University of Colorado Boulder. Her work investigates the fine line between the need to preserve and a desire to re-imagine, re-configure and re-contextualize the world around her. Utilizing a variety of forming methods and clay bodies, Whittier recreates elements from nature, unites the landscapes of her reality with the landscapes of daydreams, exploits the visceral qualities of clay, and ponders the power of shared experience. Through shifts in material, Whittier makes space for metaphorical possibilities to rise to the surface. An exploration of touch and intuitive making is deeply embedded in her studio practice and community-based projects.
