About the Item
Shredded and rolled non-profit and political solicitations, health care statements and spray varnish on cradled board.
Jaynie Crimmins fabricates objects with meticulous handmade details that contrast with the banality of their materials. She repurposes solicitations, safety envelopes, and catalogs that are difficult to recycle because their inks often have high concentrations of heavy metals. Shredding these papers, she rolls, folds sews, and fabricates the shreds into intimate sculptural reliefs.
"Nothing seemed to make it into the trash in the apartment of my Eastern European grandparents. Discarded clothing became crocheted rugs. Old curtains became aprons. Leftovers became the ingredients for new meals. Nothing was wasted, everything possible was reused. Castoff items became novel and new. This power of transformation drives my practice." --Jaynie Crimmins

Make Me A Believer, Original Contemporary Mixed Media Geometric Abstraction
24" x 24" x 2" (HxWxD) Repurposed paper on panel
Hand-signed by the artist.
Artist Glenn Fischer repurposes various papers and print materials, cutting up different sections of color, and combines them into newly imagined geometric abstract compositions. The combination of the circular centerpiece and the linear nature of the cuts is reminiscent of a sunrise or sunset as it passes over a horizon line. In this case, Fischer has combined various shades of yellow, red, and green to stand against the white brick lay of the negative space...
