2023

About the Item

This deep ocean blue-coloured steel wall sculpture is one of a series of contemporary works created by Marlene Hilton Moore. Inspired by ancient ‘singing’ vessels they are intended to be objects of healing and meditation. The Canadian artist continues to explore the theme of listening with these pieces. “Do we listen? Do we hear?” The intense colour of this shiny powder-coated steel piece draws the viewer’s eye to its perfect and pleasing circular form. “The inclusiveness of the circle, the openness of the shallow vessel, the beauty of the colour all around the vessels in the meditative moment.” Marlene Hilton Moore Marlene Hilton Moore has received awards from the Canada Council for the Arts, The Ontario Arts Council, and the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation. Her work is in the collection of the Canada Council Art Bank, the Agnes Etherington Art Centre, the University of Winnipeg, and many other public and private collections.

    By Ryan Van Der Hout
    Located in Bloomfield, ON
As the sun moves through the sky, the green and purple lenses of Ryan Van Der Hout’s ‘Chromatica’ capture the light and cast colourful shadows. Van Der Hout’s powder-coated steel sculptures were inspired by their work as a professional photographer. This compelling modernist piece features five hand forged black steel poles that fan out from the center and are top and tailed with five disks of framed glass. Their vision was to create pieces infused with light and motion. As a result, the sculpture is best viewed by walking around it. “Effecting something of a kaleidoscopic eye, the sculpture’s lenses interact with sunlight and with each other to combine colours in surprising and delightful ways.” Ryan Van Der Hout An interdisciplinary artist Van...
