Artist Commentary:
NB: This piece was photographed at an angle to avoid reflection.
Finished with a resin topcoat, this piece is glass-like in appearance. This helps accentuate the subtle shimmer in the zebrawood veneer.
This piece consists of an MDF substrate laminated to baltic birch plywood on which the zebrawood veneer is laid.

Marty's aim is to take his woodworking experience and apply it to art. Typically, this will involve wood as his foundation as he explores its various properties either for visual, textural or constructive purposes. Other augmentation with materials, mediums or treatments will usually follow, all with the intended purpose of increasing accessibility for art-lovers.

Paige Smith AKA A Common Name, is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer who lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Smith is most notable for creating “Urban Geode,” a street art series of sculptures that resemble geodes, made entirely of paper and resin casts.
