About the Item
Mary Giles (1944-2018) received her BS in Art Education from Mankato State University in Minnesota. After receiving her degree she began exploring various textile processes. She honed her fiber techniques through workshops with such fiber artists as Fern Jacobs, Lissa Hunter, Diane Itter, Jane Sauer and John McQueen. Giles’ beautiful contemporary sculptural forms are constructed using the traditional basketry technique of coiling often combining waxed linen with metal embellishments of copper or iron. Her sources are diverse but central to her work in its reference to nature, from her exploration of the property of various materials to the textures, light and shadow, and forms of the natural environment. The human figure is used both as a formal reference and as an element of commentary. About her work, Giles states: “I interpret and express my concerns about our environment and the human condition through my work. I have explored communication and intimacy in relationships. The results are reflected in my figural work. I admire the directness and honesty I see in tribal art and I try to incorporate those qualities in my own.”

Mary Giles
Mary Giles was born in 1944 in St. Paul. She received a BS in art education from Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minnesota, and went on to teach art in the Twin Cities and St. Louis, Missouri. Her work has been displayed in numerous galleries and museums in the United States, at the Barbican Centre in London; she represented the US at the International Triennial of Tapestry in Lodz, Poland. In 2013, she was named The Master of Fiber Arts by the Renwick Alliance of the Smithsonian Museum. Giles work is included in the collections of over a dozen museums, including the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, where Giles’ Dark Kiva (1994) is currently on display.

I have shot the photos on a dark background so you can better see the images. they are signed in ink, dated and numbered from the edition of 25. I am selling them individually. the box from Vincent Fremont Multiples is not included.
Suzan Etkin's passionate involvement with glass began in 1993, when she was invited to design sculptural chandeliers for gallery exhibitions with Giorgio Giuman and master glass blowers in Murano, Italy.
Prior to working with glass as a medium she was the production manager for Andy Warhol Factory (Production Manager, Film & Video), and quickly emerged as a conceptual artist of global recognition. Her work has been shown in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Paul Kasmin Gallery, Holly Solomon Gallery, and other museums and galleries around the world.
In 2001, Suzan founded sei studio in SoHo with her husband, Brenden FitzGerald. They have collaborated with some of the industry’s most innovative architects and interior designers to produce custom chandeliers and art features for hundreds of landmark spaces, including the W Hotel Seoul, Mandarin Oriental New York, and Intercontinental Hong Kong.
