Michelangelo Bastiani
Rapsodia in Blue

About the Item

Michelangelo Bastiani (1979, Italy) uses technology in his representations of water to illustrate its dynamic nature and facilitate a direct connection and tangible interaction with the viewer. Bastiani develope his hologram installations and interactive video projections on LED screens exploring the theme of liquidness, with water representing the constantly changing intrinsic nature of art. Of his work, Bastiani says: Based on Bohm’s oleographic theory that “our universe is a gigantic and splendidly detailed hologram”, in my works I reproduce a microcosm in a bottle, where videos, two-dimensional by nature, become solid and dynamic realities. It is a visual perception that can be explained through the Gestalt laws. “Water, and liquidness in general, is my preferred field of investigation. My favorite subjects are natural phenomena of different magnitude, from the most tumultuous storms to soft clouds, relaxing water lilies, cold icebergs, waterfalls, fountains, galaxies, travels to the center of the earth…

  • Nocturnal Parts - abstract geometric contemporary modern painting relief
    Located in Doetinchem, NL
Nocturnal Parts is a unique one-of-a-kind contemporary modern painting relief by Dutch artist Sander Martijn Jonker. It is a relief consisting of two open spherical parts with an intriguing matte black finish, perhaps a bit mysterious but very beautifully made. It can be hanged in two different ways, with the opening between the two spherical elements either facing away or facing the observer. Depending where the light comes from one might decide for the one or the other hanging method. Sander Martijn Jonker (1977, Netherlands) graduated from the St. Joost School of Art & Design in Den Bosch, The Netherlands. He primarily makes three-dimensional reliefs that play with the tension between abstraction and representation, surface and space. Light, shadow and their elusive ever-changing properties play an important role. Although the resulting works are abstract, he uses everyday reality as a starting and/or reference point. His work is created through forms of manipulation, distortion, repetition and simplification. Some works arise from the repetition of a simple movement or form, others are made by exploring how far he can go with the deformation and manipulation of the material, after which he captures and preserves the shape. He experiences daily life as uncontrollable and at times confusing. In order to cope with that, he is always looking for patterns and has gradually developed various rituals and ways of control, hoping they can offer him certainty and reassurance. His work and person are inextricably connected. He makes the things he makes because he doesn’t have a choice. He is trying to get a grip...

Art Price 2015 New Ranking Contemporary Artists: Richard Orlinski is ranked number 1 of the best selling French artists. Analysis of the work Rooted in his time, Richard Orlinski uses materials like resin and aluminum, but also marble, stone and bronze. He works on the brilliance and dullness, transparency and opacity of the materials. The Born Wild concept The stake for Richard Orlinski through the concept "Born Wild" is to transform negative emotions into positive vital impulses, to shift from archaic instinct to a civilized emotion. The vectors of this transformation are the aesthetics of the work, the pursuit of perfection as a sculptor and the viewer's perception. Engaged in making art accessible to all, Richard Orlinski draws on popular imagery of the icons that serve his purpose. Wild Kong Open Mouth on menacing fangs, the resin gorilla...
