Mickey "Kano" Kane
"Extrication Bond" Satirical Bond Paperwork Collage

1993

About the Item

"Extrication Bond" Satirical Bond Paperwork Collage Elaborate collage by Mickey "Kano" Kane (American, 20th century). This piece is a visually striking satirical artwork that masquerades as an ornate certificate of spiritual or existential release. With a fiery, cloud-like background and elaborate border designs, the piece mimics the grandeur of official documents while subverting their authority. The bold text “EXTRICATION BOND” arches across the composition, flanked by swirling patterns and surreal elements. At the top, a figure resembling a classical sculpture gestures upward, while the reworked phrase “In God We Trust / Got Trusts In Man” adds tension between faith, autonomy, and societal constructs. At the bottom, a mock declaration pledges the renouncement of assumptions and inherited karmic obligations, adding a layer of philosophical satire. Signed and dated "Kano 88" in the lower right corner. Presented in a new grey mat. Mat size: 20"H x 28"W Paper size: 14.5"H x 22"W Mickey Kane, better known as "Kano," is an artist and sculptor from Santa Cruz, CA. His collage work is generally satirical or critical in nature, frequently dealing with themes of money, capitalism, government, power, and debt. By contrast, his sculptural work is abstract and free of direct symbolism, focusing instead on the aesthetics of the composition.
