About the Item
This geometric wall sculpture features blue hues.
Atlanta-based artist Mitchell Biggio’s “Fault” is a series of complex three-dimensional wall sculptures that navigate the expansive interaction of shifting elements within our memories and frames them into topographic moments of form and color. In these sudden and precarious compositions, Mitchell looks to create and explore narratives that form the enduring and alternating parts of ourselves. The resulting work encourages discovery by revealing value, light and shadow based on the exchange with the viewer. The processes of utilizing digital techniques further inspires these works from the geometric simplification of virtual spaces.
“The major life changes of becoming a parent and now welcoming a second child has led to a change in expectation and a reforming of how I work as an artist,” says Mitchell. “My current studio practice is focused on solving complex fabrication problems by using traditional, high tech and custom tools to produce visually clean pieces. This has led to processes that facilitate creative efficiency within the windows of time I can work.”
Based in Atlanta, Mitchell graduated with a BFA in Sculpture from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2015. He is a recipient of the 2024-2025 Leap Year Residency at MINT ATL. His work has been exhibited in a number of galleries including a 2023 solo show “Forms in Exchange” at Echo Contemporary Art in Guardian Studios and the 2021-2022 “Gathered” juried exhibition at MOCA GA.
