Halfway is a unique medium size contemporary modern abstract geometric wall sculpture by Dutch visual artist Mo Cornelisse. This wall sculpture consists of 15 hand-casted hollow unglazed porcelain elements that are fired together. Each element is a so-called regular icosahedron, which is the Platonic solid with the most (20) faces. Due to the many different angles of the icosahedra, the pure white of the sculpture takes on numerous shades of white and grey that change with the intensity of daylight. Every composition of Halfway is unique, sometimes it is more open, sometimes more closed in its appearance.
Mo Cornelisse (1965, Netherlands) has worked as a full-time ceramist since 2012. She seeks the challenge in simplicity, and material contradictions. Her work consists of unique pieces often in porcelain combined with gold. She uses modern techniques in creating her objects but always with love for traditional craftmanship. In her work she looks for boundaries in form and material. The works are three-dimensional and are distinguished by shape and simplicity. The wall objects are reminiscent of reflections of light. She takes geometric elements and arranges them into wall sculpturesor free standing sculptures. Or she combines various sizes of these sculptures in large wall filling wave-like or circular installations.
Mo Cornelisse’s work also includes more figurative objects and she continuously explores new concepts, work methods and ideas. Her work is being exhibited widely throughout Europe as well as in Miami and New York in the United States. Many private collections include her art work and she also features regularly in art and design publications.
