About the Item
In her Quebec studio, ceramic artist Paula Murray uses her own recipe for porcelain clay that she hand-shapes into beautiful and intricate pieces. Inspired by forms and patterns found in nature, Murray’s work often reflects the deeply spiritual connection between humans and the natural world.
The “Passage” series of vessels are boat-like in form. Murray does own a collection of canoes. “Transition and pods are other titles I used with this series- the idea of leaving one place - for another; the shell that held a life that is no longer of use...” Paula Murray
She has received many honours and international awards and was elected into the RCA in 2006. Murray’s work has been gifted by the Canadian government to dignitaries such as US President George W. Bush and UN Secretary Kofi Annan. Murray’s pieces can be found in private and public collections including the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Banff Centre, the Gardiner Museum, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Official Residence of the Prime Minister in Canada and Canada House in London England.

Paula Murray
Paula Murray studied ceramics at Sheridan College and completed a residency at the Banff Centre before launching a successful career. She has received multiple grants and awards from the Ontario Crafts Council, the Canada Council and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. She has completed many public commissions, including pieces for the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards. Murray's ceramics have been gifted by the Canadian government to dignitaries such as U.S. President George W. Bush and UN Secretary Kofi Annan. Her work is held in private, corporate and public collections, including Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Banff Centre, the Gardiner Museum and the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. In 2006, Murray was elected member of the RCA. In 2017, she was elected member of the International Academy of Ceramics.
