This geometric sculpture presents a faceted form animated by a rich blend of deep reds, purples, and blues. Its smooth, reflective surfaces amplify the piece’s striking presence, while the shifting play of light and colour lends it a dynamic, vibrant quality.
The artist’s painted sculptures explore the tension between transparency and opacity, material and surface, illusion and reality. These works are playful investigations of form—simultaneously revealing and concealing depth. As the artist puts it: “It’s an open-ended process. I don’t know where I’m going, but I know when I’ve arrived.”
This piece exemplifies the distinctive geometric language the sculptor developed during the 2010s, which continues to define his current work. Though he works with various materials—including bronze and ceramic—he favours stone: granites, marbles, limestones, red sandstones, and alabasters sourced from quarries in England, Ireland, and Italy.
Richard Perry’s practice centres on the relationship between form and material, and how they interact with space and light. Through a refined orchestration of planes, lines, surfaces and voids, his abstract sculptures achieve a sense of elegant balance and quiet strength. His process is both intuitive and deliberate—a continuous dialogue between spontaneity and structure that ends, in his words, “when the sculpture has a character of its own and becomes surprising.”
