About the Item

Roesch has created site specific, major artworks throughout the USA, Europe, China and Japan. His monumental icon “The World in Balance”, Commissioned by the Government of China for the recent G20 Conference- Fall 2016, in Hangzhou, China has received international acclaim. He is a member of the Philadelphia Art and Architecture Commission and has received 12 grants, including a Fulbright Specialist Award that brought him to lecture and exhibit throughout Japan in 2006-07 and to represent the United States in the Baku Biennial in 2009. His work is in museum collections Internationally and he has completed 20 major public art projects in the United States including the Gateway to the City of Wichita Kansas and the entrance to Texas A & M University in Corpus Christi. Roesch was a Cultural Advisor to The United States Embassies in Azerbaijan, Egypt, Syria, Argentina, Ecuador, and Myanmar. Their collaborative sculpture “Transduction” is a permanent installation at Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. He was an invited artist in the 2007 and 2009 Biennials in Egypt and was the guest of the Chinese Government and the Academy of Fine Arts in Hang Zhou, in 2008 where he built a solar powered sculpture for their Westlake area and returned to China in 2010 to complete a second sculpture Rainwall-”a Moment in the Garden” sited in downtown JianDe. Currently He is working on a concept to solar energize LED lighting. Together with slender four sided spires the lights will act as a “ground” lighting the imagination to faraway places. In this sculpture, the sailboat is hand shaped...They are cast and polished bronze The gimbal that the sailboat rests in is movable and held vertically by a pendulum running through the spire and counter-weighted at the bottom. The spires celebrates a place on the earth, much like a point of latitude and longitude. In a statement Roesch says: "The spires describe my journey on the planet. I have placed spires in rows, in star patterns, and in random placement. The spires in Random placement are to suggest community or centers of activity. My love for wind and water, the night sky and the fractal nature of all things - has been a guiding force in my work. This new body of work reveals the narrative I've been seeking throughout my career. It anticipates a journey having the possibility of an adventure. I see this work as a miniaturization of the forces of nature that inform this sailor's wandering." This stainless steel sculpture titled SYMMETRICAL JOY can be sold and displayed without the base, it measures 77 x 17 x 17 including the base. I have included photos with the LED lights on so you can see the wonderful "Glow" given off when the sculpture is plug into an outlet. There is also an "in motion" photo to see the passive movement that surrounds the bronze sailboat form surrounded by the stainless spires.
