"Draped Figure" is a beautiful example of Tazian's ability to meld the smooth texture of wood and the hard texture of bronze into an exquisite object to view, hold or caress. The piece balances perfectly on its stone base and can be easily turned to enjoy from all angles. Like architects Eliel Saarinan and Albert Kahn and sculptor Corrado Parducci, Tazian is an immigrant creative who has found a home in the city, nurtured by its energy and sheltered by its community. He developed an early ambition to become an artist, even though he had very little exposure to the arts. ““The only person [who encouraged me] was my 5th grade English teacher, Olivia Balian,” he says. “She really opened the doors of art for me. She said, ‘Those students who are interested in art can stay behind after school and I will show you how to paint and draw.’ Somehow [that] changed my life– she gave me that spark.” Tazian came to the U.S. to study at St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He earned a bachelor’s degree in art and a Master’s in Art Education, and then earned and MFA in sculpture from Wayne State University in Detroit. Kegham Tazian is an award-winning sculptor and painter. The Armenian-born artist has gained notoriety for the diversity of his work and the variety of media exemplified in his pieces. A blend of modernism, realism and abstraction are commonly depicted in his paintings and sculptures. His artwork has been represented in more than 40 solo exhibitions and more than 75 group exhibitions throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East. His work adorns the entrances and halls of major corporations, universities and municipalities, including Siemens Corporation, Huntington Bank, Wayne State University and the city halls of Farmington and Farmington Hills...

SALE ONE WEEK ONLY “Contemplation” is an abstract clay sculpture of a female. The figure has both arms and legs extended, but the dignified pose suggests an intimate rather than a sexual moment. The sculpture is delicately rendered, but monumental in pose and clean composition reminiscent of the English artist Henry Moore. The surface is warm and slightly rough to the touch. This sculpture is in the round and beautifully balanced geometrically with the hands clasped behind the head forming a slightly flattened polygon shape that is echoed in the positioning of the legs and draped fabric of a presumed dress. Biomorphic comes from combining the Greek words 'bios', meaning life, and 'morphe', meaning form. The term seems to have come into use around the 1930s to describe the imagery in the more abstract types of surrealist painting and sculpture particularly in the work of Joan Miró and Jean Arp. Kai achieves a compelling balance between abstract form and organic reference in "Lilly Pod". Kai Wolter; artist, object maker of Kaiwerx Studio, was born 1972 in Aspen, Colorado. He established Soulmetal Jewelry in Chicago in 1994. Attended the University of The Arts in Philadelphia in 1997, studied metalsmithing and sculpture earning a BFA in 2002 then attended The Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan where he earned his MFA Metalsmithing in 2006. By 2008 he established his Kaiwerx Studio. Exhibitions include shows in Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Maryland, Michigan, Japan, Finland, and Germany. SALE ONE WEEK ONLY "Blue Abstraction" is a blown-glass creation encased in steel. The captured organic lift of its shape belies the weight of its structure. The copper colored steel is a beautiful contrast to the deep cerulean blue of the glass and adds to the feel of sky and/or water seeming to give the piece a timeless flow. Albert Young has been operating an independent glass studio/school since 1983 and has been a pivotal member of the Detroit areas glass community. He received his BFA in ceramics from The Center For Creative in Studies in 1982 and his MFA in sculpture from Wayne State University in 1988 as well as studies in Taiwan, Murano, Italy and Canada. Albert currently owns and operates Michigan Hot Glass Workshop, Michigan’s oldest independent glass blowing school. He is also on the faculty at The College for Creative Studies where he teaches all levels of glass blowing and creative thinking. This is an original wooden sculpture with hand painting on both sides. it does not appear to be signed or numbered and does not currently have any label. I believe this might be the proof, There was an edition of these and this is a unique variant. All done by hand. It is on a base and revolves and rotates easily as there are ball bearings. It is very well made. Christiaan Karel Appel (1921-2006) was a Dutch artist, painter, sculptor, and poet. Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, he died in Zurich, Switzerland. He started painting at the age of fourteen and studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam in the 1940s. He was one of the founders of the avant-garde movement Cobra in 1948. He was also an avid sculptor and has had works featured in MoMA, the Stedelijk and other museums worldwide. At fourteen, Appel produced his first real painting on canvas, a still life of a fruit basket. For his fifteenth birthday, his wealthy uncle Karel Chevalier gave him a paint set and an easel. An avid amateur painter himself, Chevalier gave his namesake some lessons in painting. From 1940 to 1943, during the German occupation, Appel studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, and it was there he met the young painter Guillaume Corneille and, some years later, Constant; they became close friends for years. Appel had his first show in Groningen in 1946. In 1949 he participated with the other CoBrA artists in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam; this generated a huge scandal and many objections in the press and public. He was influenced by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and the French brute-art artist Jean Dubuffet.
