Hyakutake is a bronze sculpture by contemporary artist Romain Langlois, dimensions are 100 × 32 × 32 cm (39.4 × 12.6 × 12.6 in). The sculpture is signed and numbered, it is part of a limited edition of 8 editions + 4 artist’s proofs, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
This sculpture has the appearance of a rock that has exploded, with its fragments connected by what appears to be a liquid heart. This dynamic piece is entirely made of bronze and leans toward the surrounding space. Parts of it have been patinated to resemble a rocky surface and other parts have been polished to reveal an almost fluid golden substance.
Romain Langlois finds inspiration in the natural world. The artist's magnificent bronze work breathes new life into these stumps, rocks, and discarded branches. The copied nature is both formally and substantively transformed by the bronze patina: the forms are stretched and hollowed out, and a golden substance—achieved by polishing the bronze—springs from the object's center. We are witness to the creation of priceless objects, which causes us to disregard their humble beginnings.
