About the Item

This striking deep cerulean blue sculpture by Canadian artist, Shayne Dark is part of the ‘Entangled Series’ he has worked on for many years. The abstract series began in wood, then in small steel works and has evolved into these larger metal sculptures, suitable for indoors or outdoors. Dark is inspired by the natural world that surrounds his Kingston home. His masterful use of organic shapes to create stunning sculptures is enhanced by minimal form, bright colours and the industrial materials he favours. “The synthetic looking colors add a certain mystical resonance, but this quality never reaches the level of eco-kitsch. Instead, the natural and the unnatural remain in balance. Dark's work is rooted in a regional cultural experience, drawing on the environment where he lives.” John K. Grande, Author, and Arts Writer “Experiencing the natural world will often give me a germ of an idea and then I run with it.” Shayne Dark He was the artist in residence at the Brooklyn botanic garden in 2016 following a successful residency at the Albright Knox and Buffalo botanical garden in 2015 and a feature article on his work in Sculpture magazine. At Art Basel, Dark was named one of the top ten artists to watch. His work can be found in numerous private, corporate, and public collections.

Probability Deep Blue 4 - elegant, curved, abstract, glass, wall sculpture
By John Paul Robinson
Located in Bloomfield, ON
John Paul Robinson creates original contemporary wall sculptures from coloured glass that are filled with light. This piece features elegant arched deep blue tubes of glass that are polished to a smooth finish and overlap one another to create a dynamic composition. The Canadian artist often explores themes related to how the world works. This is one of a series intended to represent the dual nature of light as both a particle and a wave. In physics, the wave nature of light is referred to as a "probability wave". “The thickness of the glass and curvature of the lens conspire to create their own optical effect. As your gaze moves across the piece it causes the small grains of coloured glass to shift just a bit. Starry Starry Night...

Probability Deep Blue 2 - abstract, curved, glass, suspended wall sculpture
By John Paul Robinson
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Canadian artist John Paul Robinson has chosen a deep blue for this elegant glass wall sculpture. Six arched pieces of translucent glass are suspended by fine steel cables…each crisscrossing the other in a graceful composition. His glass work is inspired by nature’s elements—earth, wind, fire and water—all of which sustain life. For Robinson, this piece is symbolic of an iconic physics experiment that explored the dual nature of light. Light exhibits both particle and wave-like behaviour. “It’s important to me that my work be about something. So, I spend a lot of time reading, writing and basically researching ideas (often science-based) and issues that inform my work.” John Paul Robinson He was educated at the Georgian College of Arts and Technology and the Ontario College of Art where he later taught for several years. Robinson is a Fellow of The Creative Glass Center of America, recipient of the Joan Chalmers Glass Award and has twice received the Best Glass Award at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. Robinson has had solo exhibitions in Montreal, Toronto, Palm Beach, Quebec City and Chicago. His works are in corporate, private and public collections throughout North America. Robinson is represented exclusively by Oeno Gallery.
