About the Item
In elegant black, this expressive abstract wall sculpture was created by Stefan Duerst. The German born artist’s ethereal work hand forges steel into swirling ribbons that form dynamic compositions. The energy of this piece is accentuated by its shiny powder coated finish. One of a series.
“….my inspiration is often guided by spontaneous intuition that directs decisions about form, lines and spatial vs. non-spatial relations.” Stefan Duerst
Born and raised in Munich, Germany Duerst apprenticed under a Master Blacksmith and worked in both metal design and fabrication. He completed his Masters in Metalwork with distinction. Stefan Duerst has exhibited throughout North America. His sculptures can be found in both private and public collections in Canada and the US.

Stefan Duerst
In German, it’s called ‘Augenblick’—capturing a moment in time. This is Stefan Duerst’s goal in creating his elegant sculptural work: to envision energy in motion. His ethereal sculptures are inspired by the natural motion found in water, wind, earth and fire—the four elements used to create the clean lines of his abstract pieces. “My fabricated and forged pieces are an extension of each other, interpreting and expressing my thoughts and feelings through their own specific aesthetic.” Stefan Duerst Born and raised in Munich, Germany, Duerst apprenticed as a blacksmith and worked in metal design and fabrication. He completed his Master's in Metalwork with distinction. But it was his work under a Master Blacksmith that fired his own imagination and convinced him to pursue artwork forged from steel. From his studio in the Ontario countryside, Stefan Duerst now creates sculptures that can be found in both private and public collections in North America.

"Orion's Belt, " Abstract Steel Sculpture
Located in Westport, CT
This abstract sculpture by Joe Sorge is made with steel and black dye. A single strip of steel curves up from a circular base like a ribbon, curling at the top twice around. The sculpture casts intricate and unique shadows on its surrounding environment. The white pedestal pictured is not included.
Connecticut-based sculptor Joe Sorge studied at the School of Visual Art (SVA) in New York City. While Joe's body of work is most often made with stainless steel which he sometimes dyes to give the forms bold, solid colors, he also experiments with stone carving, genesa crystals, tiger eye alabaster and others. He works with a variety of colors, finishes, and textures, to create the final piece.
Joe's sculptures express the fluidity and tension inherent in the material he uses. His work draws on a modernist vocabulary to create abstract, often whimsical objects...
