About the Item
Black Totem (Totem noir) is a one-off ceramic sculpture by contemporary artist Tien Wen whose work revolves around the idea of abstraction and the pureness of shapes. Thanks to the raku technique, so dear to the artist, the sculpture boasts both the white of the enamel and the black of the iron oxides obtained through the smoking process.
This work of art gets its name from a term used by some native American Indians to designate a mythical being, considered as the ancestor eponym of a clan as well as its guardian spirit.
