About the Item

Carbon Void Jade is a sculpture by contemporary artist Tom Price. This sculpture is made of coal, polyurethane resin, steel, dimensions are 46 × 155 × 71 cm (18.1 × 61 × 28 in). This artwork is available on commission. It will be created on the same basis as shown in the images and under the same conditions. Each piece is unique due to the creative process used. Coal is one of the artist's preferred materials. The artist appreciates both its inherent qualities and practical features, especially its darkness and opacity. As the building block of all known life forms and a vital source of energy for humans, coal is one of the purest forms of carbon. Tom Price gained a solid mastery in this medium and is now able to create a vast array of artwork with it because he learned by doing. The artist combined different geometric "positive" (forming solids) and "negative" (forming voids) shapes to create the Carbon Voids series. He intended to investigate the relationship between man and the objects he uses through geometry; the artworks have the capacity to transform into seats or containers because of the inherent voids.
