Synthesis Bench is one of Tom Price's 'hybrid' artworks sitting halfway between art and design: the piece can be seen exclusively as a sculpture or can also serve as a bench.
In the Synthesis series, Tom Price forces resin and tar to live in the same space, experimenting with the chemical reactions through heating materials and catalysis process. A new element is created by the synthesis of the two. The works of the Synthesis series are pieces of surprising beauty, intriguing and mysterious, drawing in the viewer’s admiration of the detail’s forms, the subtle colour nuances and the changing light reflections.This powerful visual impact is highlighted in some artworks, as in this case, by LED lights (via cable).
