About the Item
Synthesis C1 is a sculpture by the English artist Tom Price. Resin, tar, steel, acrylic, LED. 41.5 cm × 31.5 cm × 28.8 cm. Dimensions include the base of the sculpture.
This artwork is available on commission. It will be created on the same basis as shown in the images and under the same conditions. Each piece is unique due to the creative process used.
In the Synthesis series, Tom Price forces resin and tar to live in the same space, experimenting with the chemical reactions through heating materials and catalysis process. As the tar fragments inserted into the resin blocks widen, they develop fissures, voids and cracks, modifying the original appearance, colour and characteristics of the resin.
The works of the Synthesis series are pieces of surprising beauty, intriguing and mysterious, drawing in the viewer’s admiration of the detail’s forms, the subtle colour nuances and the changing light reflections. This powerful visual impact is highlighted in some artworks, as in this case, by LED lights (via cable).

Modern-day 3-dimensional facsimile of the 1-dimensional mathematical axis spiral found in the ancient manuscript titled the "Archimedes Palimpsest." Sculpture conveys a double entendre with its proprietary version of the universe spiraling through space, evoking Archimedes’ effort to calculate the volume of the universe. The universe is depicted via the vortex spiral and globe as supercooled and superheated, a polar opposite electrical balance of nature. An armillary sphere conveys Archimedes' math treatises on the circle, sphere and cylinder.
