About the Item
Endless column of glass / 240601 is a glass sculpture by Japanese contemporary artist Toshio Iezumi, dimensions (not including the stainless steel base) are 180 × 10 × 10 cm (70.9 × 3.9 × 3.9 in).
The sculpture is signed and numbered, it is part of a limited edition of 3 editions and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Beginning in the 2000s, the artist presented vertical sculptures in the "Move" series that stood with a strong yet delicate presence. Toshio Iezumi focused particularly on the waves for the series, alternating convex and concave forms to give the sculptures a sense of motion. In order to emphasize the reflections and light diffusion even more, the artist also incorporates a partially transparent mirror inside the piece.
The artist’s glass sculptures surprise viewers through their changing aspects and their elegant and poetic presence. Shades of highly intense or very clear green, real or illusionary volumes, internal spaces that one tries to decipher, unexpected distortions reflected on the surface, an impression of movement created by alternating concave and convex forms… Glass, with its ability to refract light, is the absolute protagonist in these pieces, brought out by the artist’s skill and experience. The sculpture’s organic form draws on nature’s elements: the waves made by the wind on the water or grass, the sea’s waves, the stones’ roundness and smoothness.

Toshio Iezumi
Toshio Iezumi has dedicated over thirty years to working with glass. The artist creates unique sculptures using sheets of glass and a complex technique traditionally used for carving stone. His abstract artworks change appearance depending on where they are placed and the position of the viewer. Depending on whether they reflect light or let it filter through, his sculptures give off inexhaustible visual effects. Since 1985, Toshio Iezumi has exhibited in dozens of museums, galleries and art fairs worldwide. His works are included in several major public collections: the New York Museum of Art and Design, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art. “When shape and texture are well balanced, an ordinary object becomes extraordinary – an artwork.”
