About the Item
F.171201 is a glass sculpture by Japanese contemporary artist Toshio Iezumi, dimensions are 17 × 42 × 35 cm (6.7 × 16.5 × 13.8 in).
The sculpture is signed and numbered, it is part of a limited edition of 3 editions, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The artist’s glass sculptures surprise viewers through their changing aspects and their elegant and poetic presence. Shades of highly intense or very clear green, real or illusionary volumes, internal spaces that one tries to decipher, unexpected distortions reflected on the surface, an impression of movement created by alternating concave and convex forms… Glass, with its ability to refract light, is the absolute protagonist in these pieces, brought out by the artist’s skill and experience. The sculpture’s organic form draws on nature’s elements: the waves made by the wind on the water or grass, the sea’s waves, the stones’ roundness and smoothness.
This sculpture is part of the series ‘Form’: the artist decided to work with round and oval shapes. A viewer’s gaze is drawn in and spellbound by the organic shapes, that give the sculptures a very delicate appearance, as well as by the deep blue and green shades of the layered glass sheets.

Toshio Iezumi
Toshio Iezumi has dedicated over thirty years to working with glass. The artist creates unique sculptures using sheets of glass and a complex technique traditionally used for carving stone. His abstract artworks change appearance depending on where they are placed and the position of the viewer. Depending on whether they reflect light or let it filter through, his sculptures give off inexhaustible visual effects. Since 1985, Toshio Iezumi has exhibited in dozens of museums, galleries and art fairs worldwide. His works are included in several major public collections: the New York Museum of Art and Design, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art. “When shape and texture are well balanced, an ordinary object becomes extraordinary – an artwork.”
