About the Item
Adriana Marmorek was born in Bogotá in 1969. She developed her career around publicity and television, from which she would later borrow certain elements and rethink them through the artistic practice. She earned a Masters in Plastic and Visual Arts from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Marmorek began as a sculptor, later expanding her horizons toward other mediums such as photography, video, installation, and most importantly, what she defines as “Architecture of the Desire,” an investigation exploring concepts of desire and pleasure using erotic, social, historical and human elements. This is an evolutionary and contemporary concept that defines the parameters of the Colombian artist’s creative activity, and constitutes a sociological analysis about desire in our world. In Marmorek’s brilliant career there is a clear line of work, a personal mark that evolves and flourishes around the concepts of desire and pleasure. Her artistic expression is not limited to the erotic element, but also incorporates social, historical and human elements fundamentally relative to the Western world’s imagination and questioning.

The pictures shown are only for illustrative reasons, the piece is offered unframed. Gillick’s work exposes the dysfunctional aspects of a modernist legacy in terms of abstraction and architecture when framed within a globalized, neo-liberal consensus. His work extends into structural rethinking of the exhibition as a form. He deploys multiple forms to expose the new ideological control systems that emerged at the beginning of the 1990s. "By making the abstract concrete, art no longer retains any abstract quality, it merely announces a constant striving for a state of abstraction and in turn produces more abstraction to pursue." -Liam Gillick Gillick’s work has had a profound impact on a contemporary understanding of how art and architecture influence, and are themselves influenced by, interpersonal communication and interactions in the public sphere. This colorful Plexiglas...Category
