About the Item
This oil and wood wall sculpture is inspired and informed by the graceful movements of the classic dancer. The dancers movements are abstracted stylistically to capture the rhythmic grace and balance of the art. The sense of movement is further enhanced and intensified by the use of sweeping shapes and vibrant colors. Artist Camey McGilvray is a Los Angeles based artist who uses wood, wire and metal to create abstract, contemporary wall sculptures and freestanding sculptures. The work is purely imaginative and evocative rather than representational and relies on the shape and placement of the materials, as well as cast shadows, color and texture to convey the idea to the viewer. McGilvray was born and raised in New Jersey. She studied art at St. Lawrence University, The University of the Americas in Mexico City, and the New School and Art Students league in New York City, where she lived before settling in Los Angeles. Her work is included in private collections and exhibited nationally.
