About the Item
Alexandra Levasseur (b. Shawingan, Canada, 1982) holds a BFA from the University of Costa Rica and an MFA from EINA in Barcelona. She is currently based in Montreal. Her work has been acclaimed and exhibited worldwide, and has been featured in publications including Juxtapoz, Booooooom, Allure/Vogue, Elle, and many others. Her current work is inspired by physics, mythology, and a dreamlike play of symbolism. She says, “I am interested in the notion of time and the complex interaction between human beings and nature…a luxuriant and luminous nature reminds our unconscious of the environment in which human beings have lived and developed over the millennia, leaving a trace in our memories and our genetic codes.” This work addresses the interconnectivity of all living beings in the form of multi-intelligent creatures resulting from a crossbreeding that transcends time and borders.

Kristen Newell was born in a small town on the coast of Massachusetts, where from a very early age, she demonstrated a strong propensity for the arts. Important additional inspiration came from her family and from the family of a childhood friend, where Kristen found herself surrounded by the work of Paul Manship, her friend’s grandfather and one of America’s greatest sculptors.
