Arman
Arman Sliced Bronze Sculpture Orgueil Masculin Heracles and Saxophone

1988

About the Item

In 1987, Arman began his Transculptures series, created by combining sections of several objects on top of each other. This magnificent example from 1988 bears witness to Arman's unique artistic vision, which has never ceased to renew itself. This bronze, which has both the qualities of an antique sculpture and the modernity of Arman's creativity, is also a testament to the excellence of the Fonderie d'Art R. Bocquel in France. Arman's works were already the result of the destruction - cutting up or burning - of items symbolizing consumer society, questioning the viewer's desire to go beyond the manufactured object. A nod to cubism, this work in the Transculptures series also demonstrates Arman's ability to create aesthetic masterpieces. A similar but larger work, La Vénus des Arts, was placed in the Rue Jacques-Callot, in Paris's 6th arrondissement, in 1988.
