Auguste Rodin (1840 - 1917): A French born artist who is widely recognized as the greatest sculptor of the 19th century, even those he was denied admittance to the famous Ecole des Beaux Arts. By 1890 he was renowned through out France and was commissioned to sculpt 5 grand monuments, including The Gates of Hell. The Gates would become a portal for Rodin in which his works were constantly reworked, and modified, yet Rodin never lived to see it cast in bronze. Today, his most famous works, started as part of this project and then developed into individual works. Many of these sculptures are still exhibited in the most prestigious museums, public and private collections, where they are enjoy by critics and collectors alike.
