About the Item
A pair of white porcelain dinosaurs hand built by New York artist, Bethany Krull are contained inside a glass aquarium. The dinosaurs, the vibrant green artificial plants and blue aquarium stones are permanently cast into a "water layer" of archival resin. This work is from the artist's "Dominance and Affection" series that explores our society's most intimate connection with the natural world that tends to be with the plants and animals that we have altered through the process of domestication. Wild animals are turned into pets, genetically sculpted into sweeter, cuter, less dangerous versions of themselves. Our homes have become barriers that keep the wild out, yet they are filled with caged animals, potted plants and countless other creatures and representations of the natural world as we strive to give balance and meaning to our technology-laden and, often, nature deprived lives.
