About the Item
Saigneurs, mes cieux mes yeux is a smoke-fired stoneware sculpture by French contemporary artist Cécile Raynal.
This artwork is composed of three busts placed on their base. Busts are made with smoke-fired stoneware with metalized matte black and golden reflection. Base are laquered steel plinths.
Each figure has its own name:
*Jean-Philippe (on the left side), dimensions of the bust are 96 x 71 x 37 cm (37,8 x 28 x 14,6 in), dimensions of its base are 152 x 43 x 43 cm (59,8 x 16,9 x 16,9 in), total height is 250 cm (98,4 in).
*Jean-Baptiste (in the middle), dimensions of the bust are 99 x 56 x 35 cm (39 x 22 x 13,8 in), dimensions of its base are 120 x 43 x 43 cm (47,2 x 16,9 x 16,9 in), total height is 219 cm (86,2 cm).
*Denis (on the right side), dimensions of the bust are 92 x 92 x 32 cm (36,2 x 36,2 x 12,6 in), dimensions of its base are 89 x 43 x 43 cm (35 x 16,9 x 16,9 in), total height is 180 cm (70,9 cm).
Minimal dimensions of the installation are 250 cm height x 100 cm length x 43 cm width (98,4 x 39,4 x 16,9 in).
Cécile Raynal uses sculpture as a way of exploring the world, between documentary and fiction. Thus she often sets up her workshop in remote, forgotten or marginal places, that she goes over and then reconstructs in clay. A prison, a retirement home, a hospital, a convent, a cargo-ship… are among the places in which she invites the inhabitants to pose for her, so as to sculpt their portraits and capture these rare encounters.
