About the Item
Created by Canadian artist David Sheridan, this outdoor fibreglass sculpture is a unique intersection of pop and classical figurative sculpture. The index finger of the massive hand points to the sky but in a more open fashion than the extant hand fragment from the Colossus of Constantine. The base of this work is 36 inches in diameter. Steel rods secure the base to the ground.
David Sheridan is an Ontario-based muralist, painter and sculptor. He completed a BFA and a BEd at the University of Western Ontario in 1982 and a Diploma in Classical Animation from Sheridan College, Oakville. After a successful career as an arts teacher during which he was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence, Sheridan began to work full time as an artist. Through his career he has completed many commissions that include the Vial Rail mural and the Interval House Mural in Brockville, and a sculpture for the Brockville Police. His many book illustration credits include The Last Butterfly and Tibetan Treasure, both with Simon and Pierre Publishing.
